Austin Cipriano 鈥�25, Shey Sanges 鈥�26, and Marcela Rondon 鈥�27 spent their summer leaving a tangible mark on both the present and future of 新澳开奖鈥檚 campus. Under the leadership of Director of Environmental Protection Safety and Sustainability Brian Hansen, a group of students helps 新澳开奖 strive for a more sustainable campus, culture, and curriculum. This summer鈥檚 group tackled three projects critical to the College鈥檚 goal of carbon neutrality by 2030.

In 2023, the National Endowment for the Humanities awarded 新澳开奖 a grant for its new curatorial studies program, and this summer a handful of students had the opportunity to work behind-the-scenes as interns at regional galleries and museums. We talked with a few about their experiences.

Emile (Em) Vasquez Mejia 鈥�24 spent the fall 2023 semester living and learning in Washington, D.C., through 新澳开奖鈥檚 D.C. Program. The anthropology major and Posse Scholar shares here some of her favorite experiences and what she learned about city life, herself, and her future.

Among the many people and departments on campus working tirelessly to help 新澳开奖 achieve its carbon neutrality goal by 2030, there鈥檚 a group of students doing the work right alongside them: the 新澳开奖 Sustainability Coordinators.

As a child, Pyu Pyu Win 鈥�24 and her family immigrated to the United States from Myanmar. They stopped in Illinois and Indiana before settling in Utica, N.Y., where The Young Scholars Liberty Partnerships Program (YSLPP), a collaborative project established between Utica University and the Utica City School District, helped Win navigate her education and ultimately become a 新澳开奖 student.

Many young people have grand aspirations to change the world; not all actually do. Dewayne Martin 鈥�24 has such aspirations in abundance and is already proving that he鈥檚 willing to see them through.

Even during the summer, 新澳开奖 students kept busy pursuing projects that reflect their talents and interests. Some conducted research off-campus, or studied abroad; others focused on preparing for Senior Fellowships or internships off-campus. Check out what some of our students did over the summer.

For Madeline Pittel 鈥�24, interning at Sotheby鈥檚 has been a longstanding dream. In high school, she would walk by the auction house鈥檚 large New York office en route to a job elsewhere, all the while thinking, 鈥淚 want to work there one day, and I鈥檓 going to wait for my junior year college internship. So this is a five- or six-year plan-in-the-making.鈥�
