Maggie Horne '19, who has a job teaching math to high school students, learned she wanted to be an educator through аĿª½±'s Community Outreach & Opportunity Project.

Even before some first-year students set foot on аĿª½±â€™s campus for the first time, they get an email about the Community Service Internship (CSI) program. The program is offered through the Community Outreach & Opportunity Program (COOP) and pairs incoming first-year students with a four-semester, paid internship with community partner agencies in the Mohawk Valley.

Although there are many opportunities for community outreach at аĿª½±, a select group of students have chosen to go above and beyond by taking their service experience off the Hill and into their local communities.

The COOP CSI program enables students with an interest in community service to work in a paid internship in a nonprofit organization. Here are some of the reflections expressed by the student CSIs and their supervisors at the 7th annual breakfast.

As a member of her high school’s Model UN, Maria Saenz ’19 had been exposed to various international issues and was looking to continue learning about immigration, poverty and women’s rights. A COOP Service Internship at the United Way allows Saenz to explore those interests through an internship in Utica.

From their very first days on the hill, аĿª½± students dedicate major portions of their college careers to community outreach and volunteer service. The аĿª½± COOP, or Community Outreach and Opportunity Project, provides аĿª½± students with countless rewarding opportunities to volunteer and lend a helping hand to those in need.
